The blood lipid responses to single and hourly feedings of a polyunsaturated fat nutritional preparation have been compared with those obtained with equal amounts of a half milkhalf cream (HM-HC) Sippy mixture in patients with peptic ulcer disease.
In all but one case, the polyunsaturated fat preparation feedings produced significantly lower lipemia than did the HM-HC mixture as demonstrated by lower turbidity and triglyceride values. In addition, the abnormalities in radioactive fat tolerance were less when contrasted with the marked impairment produced by the Sippy diet.
In view of these favorable findings and the clinical efficacy of the preparation in the management of patients with active peptic ulcer symptoms, its use in the routine management of this condition appears to be justified.
