A fat emulsion concentrate (FEC), transparent and stable to autoclaving and containing very low concentrations of nonphosphatide emulsifiers, was developed. The emulsion prepared by diluting the concentrate with water for injection (FEC infusion emulsion) was tested in mice, rats, rabbits and dogs by giving them large infusions intravenously. In rats and rabbits it was found that appreciable quantities of the infused fat were filtered from the blood by the capillaries of the spleen, lungs and liver. This also occurred in some mice, but not at all in dogs.
