Liver Lipids in a Case of Hypervitaminosis A

R. F. KRAUSE M.D., PH.D.1

1 From the Department of Biochemistry, West Virginia University Medical Center, Morgantown, West Virginia

The ingestion of 50,000 I.U. of vitamin A by an elderly adult for seventeen years did not result in obvious signs and symptoms of vitamin A toxicity. The total liver contained 5.4 gm. of vitamin A. The lipid content was within normal limits. Palmitic acid was the major fatty acid in the various lipid fractions isolated.
