The increase of serum triglycerides with increased carbohydrate content of the diet is well established although there is still not enough information to ascertain how long the increased triglyceride level persists upon continuation of the high carbohydrate diet.
An increase in serum triglycerides upon changing from a diet rich in complex carbohydrates to one rich in sucrose has been well established in patients with certain forms of hyperlipemia. This response, however, is much less marked in normolipemic men and seems to be absent in young women. There is no information about the frequency with which individuals with great triglyceride response to increased carbohydrate in the diet are found in any population.
