The determination of serum triglyceride fatty acids has been found to be a useful, quantitative, objective biochemical monitor of the degree of dietary adherence to a controlled fat diet in the instruction of young coronary male outpatients. Employing the regression equation:
[See equation in the PDF file]in two diets containing 14.1 and 3.3% of calories as linoleate, respectively, adherence to diets was determined (P < 0.01) for 33 men. The ability to differentiate nonadherers was also shown.
