A survey of three villages and a tribal group in Fars province shows low plasma protein and hemoglobin values if compared with similar values in healthy students and healthy adults abroad. A greater number of low values was found in the younger age groups and adult females than in adult males. Plasma protein levels in the tribal population are higher and closer to normal values because of the different type of food consumed which contains more animal proteins. University students have values similar to adults in the United States since they receive a well supplemented diet. Twice as many villagers as tribesmen have plasma protein values below 6 g/100 ml. Parasitic infestations are frequent in villagers and students.
