1) Six hundred and twenty-two school boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 17 in Iran were measured and examined clinically.
2) Of these, 126 were 3 or more sd below the Iowa mean standard growth curve.
3) Evidence of malnutrition and sexual retardation was noted in a high percentage of the latter group. Mild hypoproteinemia and anemia existed in a majority of this group. Low plasma zinc levels occurred in 31 out of 50 boys in whom this was determined.
4) Factors involved in these growth defects are discussed.
