The urinary output of thiamin after an intramuscular load is shown to be a linear function of the rate of urine flow in the 4 hr after injection. The regression equation is
= 0.1462 + 1.404 X where X is the 4-hr urine volume in liters and
is the predicted thiamin output as log percentage dose. The regression coefficient is highly significant (P < 0.001). The relevance of this finding to the diagnosis of thiamin deficiency and the possible occurrence with other metabolites are discussed.
