Nutrient Demands Imposed by Surgery of the Liver

The physiology of normal liver function has been reviewed with specific reference to the type of nutrient demands related to surgical disease. Specific pathophysiological states relating to surgical procedures on the liver and biliary tract have been reviewed, and the nutritional and metabolic defects that have been recognized to date have been described and general suggestions on supplementation proposed.
