After a complete fast of 5-8 days in 30 obese females, there were no changes in the xylose test. The 131I oleic acid test showed only minimal changes that could be explained by the decreased blood volume during fasting. The 131I triolein absorption test gave a lower blood radioactivity curve during fasting. There was a delay of many hours in the opacification of the gallbladder after iopanoic acid was ingested compared to the control test. Bile stasis is the proposed explanation for this finding.
