There is accumulating evidence suggesting that the adolescent period is a most fruitful time to establish practices aimed at preventing atherosclerotic vascular disease in later life. On the basis of studies carried out among adolescent males in a boys' boarding school, we have shown that one of the important risk factors in atherosclerotic disease, blood cholesterol, is readily and appreciably lowered by realistic and acceptable modification of dietary fats and cholesterol.
