On page 598, left-hand column lines 25-27 should read ... of type I error and the maximum probability of type II error were both set at 5%.

On page 599, Table 3, the serum albumin concentration values of the nonsurvivors should read 31.1 ± 6.0(27.8-34.4) and the units for serum prealbumin should be µmol/L instead of mol/L.

On page 601, Figure 1, the units for serum albumin (sAlb) are already in g/L and need not be converted to g/L, as instructed in the legend: ie, sAlb = 20.8 and 47.2 g/L.
