Thyroid: Fundamental Considerations

In the time allotted for this discussion an attempt has been made to integrate some of the many recent developments in the investigation of thyroid physiology. This survey includes findings on the hypothalamic-hypophyseal control of thyroid gland function; the biochemical reactions in the thyroid and their alterations in certain disease states; the transport of thyroid hormone in the blood; and the metabolic fate of thyroid hormone in the target tissues of the body.
