Page Charges
The responsible author must agree to pay page charges when the manuscript is submitted for publication. Requests for waivers of the charge must be
submitted to the dbier{at}nutrition.org with the original manuscript. After publication of their articles, responsible authors will be billed $75 per printed
journal page (3 double-spaced manuscript pages equal ≈1 printed journal page) for the first 7 pages and $120 for each additional page (except for reviews,
for which the page charges are $75 per page for all pages). This charge does not apply to reports of ASN meetings, official ASN statements, letters to the
Editor, book reviews, or articles invited by the Editor-in-Chief. All checks should be drawn on a US bank; there will be a $20 charge for insufficient funds.
Payment may also be made with VISA, MasterCard, or American Express. Bank transfers are accepted; there is a $20 charge per transfer. Please contact the
Production Office for transfer information.
Page charges may be waived by the Society for acceptable reasons such as the lack of funding from grant or institutional sources as verified by an
institutional official. Requests for waivers will not affect the review of the manuscript or delay publication. Waivers should be requested when the acceptance letter is
received or when author proofs are returned. Requests for waivers must be submitted by the corresponding author and cosigned by an appropriate institutional
official to verify that no institutional or grant funds are available for the payment of page charges. Waiver requests should be sent to: American Society
for Nutrition, 9650 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814. Tel: 301-634-7052; Fax: 301-634-7892. Please include the journal name and manuscript number. When
page proofs are received, the following item should be checked on the reprint order/page charge billing form:

Open access publication option
Authors of accepted manuscripts can choose to pay an open access fee to allow their articles to become freely accessible on the journal website
immediately upon publication. The open access fee is $3000 per article and is charged in addition to other author charges (page charges, color reproduction
charges, author alteration charges, and charges for reprint orders). For authors who elect not to pay the open access fee, articles will remain under access
control for the first 12 months after publication.
Upon acceptance of an article, authors interested in the open access publication option will be
instructed to download the Open Access Choice Form to provide article and billing
information. Pending
receipt of payment, the article will be made freely accessible immediately upon publication. The remainder of the author fees (page charges, color charges,
and cost of reprints) will be billed after publication.
Authors who receive Wellcome Trust funding can comply with the Wellcome Trust open access publishing
requirements by selecting the AJCN open access publishing option. The open access form includes a section in which authors can provide information on their
Wellcome Trust grant. The ASN will deposit high-resolution files and the final version of the article in PubMedCentral on behalf of Wellcome Trust authors
who pay the open access fee and will authorize public posting on PubMedCentral and PubMedCentral mirror sites immediately.
Page proofs
The cost of changes for correction of composition, typographic, editorial, and minor author errors will be absorbed by the AJCN. Major author
changes will be billed to authors at the rate of $10 per occurrence.
Reprints
Order forms for reprints are sent with page proofs. Please follow the instructions on the form to order reprints.
Supplements
After a supplement has been found appropriate for publication, the guest editor must contact the AJCN to make financial arrangements. Write to:
