AJCN Online SUBSCRIBER HELP & SERVICES

Frequently Asked Questions
about Member and Nonmember Individual Subscriptions

  1. Will I receive a password? May I share my password with friends, or is use limited solely to me?

Yes, when you complete the subscription process, you will receive a user name and a password. You are the only one licensed to use this password.

  2. What if I forget my password?

We have instructions for what to do if you forget your user name or your password. Details about how to do this will be included as part of the subscription process.

  3. Why should I get a member or nonmember individual subscription to AJCN Online?

    Member Subscribers have access to
Tables of contents, abstracts, full-text searching, full-text display, document delivery, PDFs, links to Medline and GenBank, future tables of contents, interjournal links to other HighWire Press journals, and the advantage of having password access to AJCN Online from any computer connected to the Internet. [Membership Information]
Nonmember Individual Subscribers have access to
Tables of contents, abstracts, full text searching, full-text display, document delivery, PDFs, links to Medline and GenBank, future tables of contents, interjournal links to other HighWire Press journals, and the advantage of having password access to AJCN Online from any computer connected to the Internet. [Subscription Rates]

Without a subscription you have access to tables of contents, abstracts, and full-text searching at no cost and without having to register.

  4. How can I tell if my institution has subscribed? How do I get my institution to subscribe?

If your institution has a paper subscription, it will be eligible to have an electronic version of the journal as well. In so doing, you will automatically have access to the tables of contents, abstracts, full-text searching, full-text display, PDFs, Medline and GenBank links, and future tables of contents. You will also see a button at the top of the page confirming that you are signed in as part of an institution.

If your institution does not have a paper subscription, it cannot get the AJCN Online. If you would like to have an institutional subscription, please contact your local librarian.

  5. Will I still be able to get the paper version? And for how long?

Yes, individuals and institutions will continue to receive the paper version for the foreseeable future. At some time, the paper and electronic versions may be available as separate subscriptions.

  6. Who is eligible for a Member Subscription?

ASN Members are eligible for Member Subscriptions to AJCN, providing them with a paper and electronic version of the journal. Members may also have access to AJCN Online through their institutions.

  7. How can I access the AJCN Online if I am not an ASN member and I don't have access through an institutional subscription?

You may wish to apply for ASN membership or you may wish to purchase an Individual (Nonmember) print subscription, which provides access to the electronic version. Without a subscription you have access to tables of contents, abstracts, and full-text searching (without full text viewing) at no cost and without having to register.

Non-subscribers can also access the AJCN through our "Pay Per Access" feature. When you click on or search for the article you want, you will see a page telling you that it requires a subscription. In the middle of that page, you will see "Purchase Short-Term Access". You can either pay for admission to the entire site for 7 days or pay for admission to a specific issue for 30 days. If you wish to purchase only a single article, simply locate the article and click on the "Purchase Article" link on the right side of the page. When you choose, you will go to a "Purchase Temporary Access" page where you can securely pay with your credit card.
